What Can Invisalign Fix?

Invisalign is made of an ultra-thin material that blends in with your smile. Wearers of Invisalign enjoy fewer food restrictions and more freedom during treatment. Simply wear your aligners daily and switch out your aligner set every week.

With expert supervision, Invisalign can help re-adjust bites, correct alignments, reduce gaps, and more. Here are some of the conditions that Invisalign can address:

Underbites, Overbites, and Crossbites

A misaligned bite occurs when one set of teeth sits unevenly on another. Underbites, overbites, and crossbites are painful and can lead to severe conditions. Invisalign can be used to even out the size of your bite.

Gaps between individual teethalso known as spacing issuescan be a source of discomfort and poor gum health. Using Invisalign to close gaps can improve your appearance and health.

Crowded Teeth

Some people may not have been born with a jaw large enough for their teeth. This causes crowded teeth. Crowded teeth are harder to clean and put you at a higher risk of accumulating plaque. In many cases, Invisalign can help improve overlapped or twisted teeth.

What Can’t Invisalign Fix?

Although Invisalign is a convenient and comfortable way to improve your smile, Invisalign requires a higher level of responsibility than other appliances.

For starters, you will need to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day. Wearing aligners 20-22 hours a day helps you gain total compliance and bring your teeth into a natural position. You will also need to follow steps for cleaning and taking care of your Invisalign

Invisalign treatment alone may not be able to address the following conditions:

Dentist examining patient

Some Tooth Positions

In serious cases of overcrowding or complex crossbites, a tooth may need to be rotated more than 20 degrees.

Large Gaps Between Teeth

For severe or cases involving multiple gaps between teeth, there is a 6mm limit of spacing issues that Invisalign can address.

Intrusion and Extrusion

Sometimes, the tooth’s position may need to be lowered or raised. Invisalign Clear Aligners are less likely to be effective with repositioning, especially for the back teeth.

No two people require the same treatment. Some people may need to enjoy Invisalign with additional appliances. Other people may need to use other appliances. More severe dental issues may require the use of elastic bands or other appliances like Damon Braces, Ceramic braces, or other alternatives.
