What to expect with removable retainers

Wearing a retainer can help keep your teeth in their ideal position. Whether or not you received orthodontic treatment, it is normal for your teeth to shift position as you age. This process — known as mesial drift — is a natural part of aging.

Removable retainers (sometimes called clear retainers) allow for dependable retention with on-the-go convenience.

Patients with clear plastic retainers can take these lightweight appliances out of their mouths at a moment’s notice. Plus, patients with removable retainers know they are getting a time-tested method for smile retention that is custom-fit to their unique needs.

Cleaning and caring for retainers

Essix retainers

Essix retainers are made using barely noticeable and nearly translucent components! Each retainer set includes an upper and lower arch appliance. Patients with Essix retainers enjoy a low-profile and comfortable treatment.

Benefits of removable retainers

Removable retainers are a reliable method of retention. Patients with removable retainers love the durability of these products.

Some benefits of clear retainers include:

  • Slender design.
  • Easy cleaning.
  • Protects grinding teeth.
  • Ultra convenient retention.
  • Transparent construction.

Retainer protection for a lifetime

It is essential to wear your retainer in perpetuity after your treatment. As part of your retention, you will need to replace your appliance every 3-5 years with an updated model. At other practices, new retainers can run upwards of $600 or more per set.

Hess Orthodontics offers a Lifetime Retainer Program for our patients. For an extra $800, you can get free retainers for life. Even if you move out of state, we will still honor your lifetime benefits. Although each new retainer is provided for free, keep in mind that you will need to provide a co-pay for the visit which is about $20 per arch.
