What are the different types of braces?

Your smile is as unique as you are. Just like fingerprints, no two people have the same set of teeth. That’s why you won’t find a one-size-fits-all approach to orthodontic treatment at Hess Orthodontics in the Greater Tampa area and Central Florida. We create personalized treatment plans and offer a variety of options for braces and Invisalign® near you.

Whether you’re looking for metal braces, clear braces, or Invisalign, we want you to have the freedom to choose the braces treatment that will provide the best results while fitting into your lifestyle, so that you feel confident and comfortable during the process.

Damon Braces

Damon Braces work a little differently than traditional braces. These are self-ligating braces, which means the brackets on your teeth open and close like a door, securing the wire without requiring elastic ties. This built-in, self-tightening system allows your teeth to move more naturally throughout treatment than with conventional braces, and that typically means fewer appointments and less overall treatment time for you.

The self-ligating technology behind Damon Braces uses titanium wires (stainless steel and polycarbonate) with shape memory to gently move your teeth into the right place. As a result, Damon Metal Braces allow for a higher level of comfort, flexibility, and overall quality treatment.

Damon Braces are made to be more transparent, more comfortable, and more convenient than traditional braces. In addition, their smooth, rounded corners have a sleek look and feel providing you with a more discrete alignment experience.

At Hess Orthodontics, we offer two types of Damon Braces: Damon Metal and Damon Clear

Damon Metal

Damon Metal Braces have a similar appearance to traditional metal braces but with some significant upgrades. These braces feature low-profile brackets and a powerful self-ligating system that keeps up with almost any lifestyle. These durable metal brackets have smooth corners that provide a less irritating treatment experience than traditional braces that use elastics to secure the wire.

Damon Clear

Made with a clear ceramic material that provides a subtle and effective treatment experience, Damon Clear Braces have changed how patients upgrade their smiles. With Damon Clear self-ligating braces low-profile design, you don’t have to worry about other people seeing that you’re wearing braces, you can just start enjoying the satisfaction of a winning smile. These virtually invisible braces give you the confidence to smile big during your treatment.

What are the benefits of choosing Damon Braces?

Each type of braces has unique benefits. Some benefits of choosing Damon self-ligating braces include:

  • Quicker treatment: Damon braces continuously move your teeth into place, often leading to quicker results.
  • Increased comfort: The slide mechanism that moves your teeth into place is more comfortable than the wires used in traditional braces.
  • Enhanced hygiene: A system without elastics makes it significantly easier to floss and brush your teeth.
  • Fewer appointments: Treatment with Damon self-ligating braces often leads to fewer office visits because the slide mechanism continuously shifts your teeth into place and removes the need for regular elastics adjustments.

Invisalign®

Invisalign is a popular alternative to braces for teeth alignment. This treatment involves a series of specially fitted, removable clear aligners built to make gradual teeth movements that offer a more inconspicuous look and comfortable fit.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Treatment for Invisalign begins with a complimentary consultation, where we create a detailed 3D model of your teeth. Using this model, we determine the best treatment plan to align your teeth, and we’ll share it with you to show how your smile will change over time. Once treatment begins, you will check in with your family orthodontist about every 12 weeks so we can assess your progress and provide a new aligner set to continue progressing you toward a straighter smile. On average, Invisalign treatment takes around 12 to 18 months to complete, but treatment could be longer or shorter depending on your specific needs.

During treatment, we advise Invisalign wearers to wear their aligners for about 20 to 22 hours each day. This means they’re only taken out for eating and drinking (except for water). Just like with any other type of braces, after treatment is completed, we provide a custom-fitted retainer to keep your teeth aligned for years to come.
